Alabama
The Tax on Ilegal Weed

As odd as it sounds, in the great state of Alabama, there is a tax for illegal drugs wherein "No dealer may possess, distribute, sell, transport, import, transfer, or otherwise use any marihuana or controlled substance upon which a tax is imposed by Section 40-17A-8 unless the tax has been paid on the marihuana or other controlled substance as evidenced by a stamp or other official indicia."

Although this idea may seem farfetched as the concept is to normally tax on the sale of the product, the idea was to apply the tax once drug dealers were captured. But because the complexity of assessing the revenue and the actual turn over of the tax, no money was ever really made by the state from this tax law.
